The CDC has shown interest in Wolbachia research because of the symbiotic association between Wolbachia sp. and filarial worms. Thus, this organization is offering grants to researchers who explore strategies that interfere with or control Wolbachia existence in filarial worms, such as those implicated in Elephantiasis. You want this money for your laboratory and believe you have a solid plan that is in accord with the CDC’s request. Your charge is to craft a “letter of interest” to the CDC that describes your plan and gives reasons why your plan should be funded. While this is a “letter” it should be lengthy enough (i.e., a proposal) so that the CDC is clear on what you will explore, how your plan would be implemented and what you expect the outcome to be.
